The US/Israel are guilty of all three of those things (to my knowledge, Iran hasn’t actually stated genocidal intent towards Israel, only that they support destruction of the state of Israel, which is often conflated as such)
- philwelch 4y agoI'm sure the regime that supports Hezbollah and hosts international Holocaust denial conferences has a nuanced and sophisticated position on the extermination of Jewish people and is fully deserving of all the charity you are extending to them.
- wbsss4412 4y agoI’m not saying that Iran is beyond criticism, it certainly deserves quite a bit, but as an American, yes, we do need to have nuanced and sophisticated discussions about this topic. Sorry to rain on your jingoism parade.
- philwelch 4y ago> we do need to have nuanced and sophisticated discussions about this topic "The US and Israel are no different from Iran" and other unsubstantiated claims of moral equivalency are neither nuanced or sophisticated.
- wbsss4412 4y agoYou’re making the false equivalence here. I never made the assertion that they were no different, only that they have done the same things that you were accusing Iran of, which is correct.
- philwelch 4y agoI'd love to know under what theory of international law do you think it was illegal for the US to develop nuclear weapons in the 1940's. Or how on earth the US and Israel have openly stated genocidal intentions towards Israel.
- wbsss4412 4y ago1. It’s widely known that Israel has developed nuclear weapons long after the NPT was international law. Iran has mirrored Israel in that regard. 2. As stated above, Iran openly calls for destruction of the state of israel. To my understanding, “wiping Israel off the map” in that sense isn’t the same thing as calling for genocide. It’s called regime change. I don’t think I need to go through a list of every example wherein the US has done regime change, but suffice to say, Israel and the US have been attempting overthrow of the Iranian regime since its inception.
- philwelch 4y ago1. Israel never signed the NPT. They aren’t subject to it. The US developed nuclear weapons in the 1940’s, prior to the NPT. 2. As I’ve already stated, I'm sure the regime that supports Hezbollah and hosts international Holocaust denial conferences has a nuanced and sophisticated position on the extermination of Jewish people and is fully deserving of all the charity you are extending to them.
- wbsss4412 4y ago1. Ah I see, because Israel never signed the document they’re a-okay. It doesn’t matter what actions you take as long as you have meaningless pieces of paper that back you up. Note that Iran still hasn’t violated the NPT. If all that matters to you is international law, they can continue their enrichment program until they are ready to make a weapon and then just withdraw from the treaty. 2. Neither of those things are the same thing as advocating/desiring genocide.
- philwelch 4y ago> Ah I see, because Israel never signed the document they’re a-okay. Yes, this is how treaties work. Countries that don't sign the treaties aren't subject to them. > Neither of those things are the same thing as advocating/desiring genocide. Your defense of Holocaust denial and suicide bombing is quite remarkable.
- pphysch 4y agoYou're right, Iran does not have (deadly) relocation camps for undesirable minorities in 2022. As far as I know, at least.
