I tried doing that a couple of times and they end up looking for the blue "e". Somehow that's their symbol for "the internet".
So what I did next was not uninstall but hide the icon and leave the chrome & FF visible. Now my dad uses Firefox and he calls it "the mozilla" hehe. And my mom somehow figured out a way to find IE, I guess she couldn't live without it.
That was my case at least.
- matt4711 15y agoI just changed the icon of chrome to the blue "e". Problem solved.
- iamandrus 15y agoSame, except for FF. I wrote a theme to make it look somewhat like IE so my dad wouldn't notice a difference. Thank god my mom uses a Mac.
- tenaciousJk 15y agoI hid IE after installing Chrome frame, then replaced both Chrome and FF icons with the IE icon. Just in case.
- nomdeplume 15y agoI think Lifehacker had a spin of the story in which the author linked the firefox APP to the IE ICON and said if you wanted to be really sneaky you could just rename Firefox to IE Explorer.
- jerfelix 15y agoI always thought that Firefox should have had a giant "F" icon. "Dad, I upgraded your 'E' software to the latest version: 'F'" Google Chrome could be "G"...
- noamsml 15y agoThen upgrade internet explorer to version 9. That way, even if they choose to use IE, they won't be able to escape using a modern, standards-compliant browser.
- RyanMcGreal 15y agoUnfortunately, you can only upgrade to 9 with Windows Vista/7. Not much help to all the existing XP installations.
- justincormack 15y agoCould be time to update their OS too...
- azakai 15y agoThat, however isn't a free upgrade, unlike with web browsers...
- ErrantX 15y agoThe creativity my not-particularly-computer-literate parents exhibit in constantly tracking down IE from wherever I hide it continues to astound me :-)
- yuhong 15y agoFirefox pretty much is Mozilla's main browser now to be honest. The original Mozilla Suite was renamed SeaMonkey.
