Peter Eckersley, tech activist and founder of Let's Encrypt, dies at 43
- soderfoo 4y ago>Eckersley died of cancer on September 2, 2022... The closer I get to 40, the more anxious I grow after reading stories like this. Guess I can just let it motivate me to appreciate those in my life and push me towards achieving goals. Rest well Peter.
- haupt 4y agoBy all means please let it motivate you to get regular cancer check-ups. I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the side of my nose a few years ago. I recently went to a dermatologist for something different and was told that I should be coming in at least once every six months for a cancer screening (because I had previously had cancer and because I am whiter than the whitest freckled ghost).
- johnbellone 4y agoFuck cancer.
- killingtime74 4y agoMost of us can only dream of such a lasting contribution as Let’s Encrypt.

- the_duke 4y agoLet's Encrypt played a tremendously important part in furthering HTTPS everywhere. One might argue that it was the right idea at the right time, and someone else would have come along and done the same thing. But I can easily see us still being stuck with expensive and cumbersome to provision certificate systems.
