- ctchocula 4y agoAnecdata: I personally know 2 people in South Bay that lost power 2 hours ago.
- nice2meetu 4y agoOurs has been out for about 5 hours now. Also South Bay. :-(
- mdeeks 4y agoWe had rolling outages in the Bay Area in Alameda at least. They did two circuits at a time instead of one too. https://twitter.com/alamedamunipwr/status/1567321973033943041?s=21&t=VQDudBnoVVVk3mV4Wjyfew https://twitter.com/alamedamunipwr/status/156732197303394304...
- eliben 4y agoUnless the official CalISO twitter account is lying, this could be a local issue for specific substations etc. With the weather there could be transformers overheating and failing, for example. In a large state, power goes out _somewhere_ quite often. The bag of tricks CalISO has to lower demand at peak is fascinating - for example, there are large consumers with significant generation resources (like emergency generators) that sign in to turn the generators on and get off the grid for a couple of hours. This produces drops in demand without blackouts per-se. Distributed power generation is generally more resilient.
- erentz 4y agoSeems to have been directed by CAISO for both Palo Alto and Alameda: https://twitter.com/nukebarbarian/status/1567358316174622720 https://twitter.com/nukebarbarian/status/1567358316174622720
- eliben 4y agoThanks. Interesting, indeed. Maybe they're using different terminology; otherwise it's not clear how both Caiso and these local utilities can be truthful at the same time.
- spacedcowboy 4y agoThere may be no rolling blackouts needed, but at least part of that is because of the involuntary ones. There's a lot of red (>5000 people) and orange (1000-5000 people) in the current map [1] [1] https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/outagecenter/ https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/outagecenter/
