Schools should try to teach kids the basics

  Yglesias may be on to something here, but I think his concept of "math", although more that simple memorization of arithmetic facts, is too simplistic. We all have as many calculators in our pockets as we want. We should do a little memorization, then turn to why the adding, multiplication, etc, algorithms work and how we know that. Symbolic logic should be a large topic, as should statistics.
