Very interesting! A few months ago I was toying with the idea of using a permanent magnet in the stem and permanent/electromagnet at the bottom for adjustable weight / position sensing. While it works in theory, in practice the feeling of magnet-on-magnet force curve feels really unnatural for typing (since it's not linear like most springs). Maybe some combination of both approaches would work better in my case.
