Argentina’s 4chan taken down by admins after would-be assassin suspected as user
- raxxorraxor 4y agoAccusations is all it takes now and companies will drop you left and right. Should inform users that it is not only important to backup your data, you also need a backup infrastructure.
- watwut 4y ago> The site’s higher-ups took the forum offline shortly after the attack on the vice president, doing so voluntarily after seeing the forum’s members accuse each other of complicity in the attack, along with talk of “hiding evidence” linking Rouzed to Montiel. The administrators opted to close down the site when comments like “the shooter was a rouzero” began to gather traction.
- pixl97 4y agoYea, in this case it sounds like the admins did the correct thing to avoid witch hunts and accusation storms (Sunil Tripathi as an example). If you have the moderation team to quell issues like this in real time it can be possible to stop behaviors like this without taking down sites. It tends to get problematic in sites with small moderation teams, poor moderation infrastructure, and users with a higher than average amount of conspiratorial thinking as any attempt to moderate rapidly increases the number of posts.
- Borgz 4y agoIt's sad how a website can't even voluntarily take itself down anymore without people like you complaining.
