New California law could raise fast-food minimum wage to $22 an hour
- WheelsAtLarge 4y ago2 big mac meals at McDonald's were a bit over $24.00. That's before the wage hike. Everyone needs a just wage so I can see why the minimum wage is going up. But at some point automation will kick in which will make the workers worse off. I wonder what will happen then?
- lax4ever 4y agoCan I just say, wow, that's insane. I can feed a family of four from McDonalds for around $24.00 out here in the Midwest. Are your Big Mac meals plated in 14 karat gold out there?
- WheelsAtLarge 4y agoYou would think but no gold. Actually, McDonalds is not out of the norm. The cost of living in California is high relative to other places in the U.S. "Family of four", you say. That's a big difference.
- Grimburger 4y ago> automation will kick in which will make the workers worse off *temporarily The history of humanity is one of automation improving the quality of life for everyone.
- jelliclesfarm 4y agoIt’s not a bad thing. More jobs would move to high skill sector as we educate all our kids. And of course, automation would mean less ‘repetitive manual jobs’. I think that this is a preface to the upcoming automation shift. Altho’ it won’t make things cheaper. And that’s not a bad thing.
