- andsoitis 4y agoYou don’t think someone should be able to make content and distribute it?
- manchmalscott 4y agoAmazon owns IMDB, which reportedly deleted a bunch of negative reviews[1] a few days ago. This could be what he's talking about? [1]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32700019 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32700019
- andsoitis 4y agoWould we really think of IMDB as a market place?
- midoridensha 4y agoI'd say that's more like a big corporation buying a newspaper and then preventing it from publishing anything unflattering.
- crmd 4y agoNot if they also control a marketplace where they have the opportunity to favor their own products over competitors. That is a perversion of capitalism. The marketplace should be run by an independent firm without a conflict of interest.
- mcphage 4y ago> That is a perversion of capitalism. In what sense? Setting up a store to sell our own product seems to be pretty consistent with capitalism.
- andsoitis 4y ago> Not if they also control a marketplace And which market place does Amazon control here? They made a show. They put it on Prime.
- partomniscient 4y agoThey control IMDB (via direct ownership). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMDb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMDb
- midoridensha 4y agoIMDB is not a "marketplace". They don't sell anything, except subscriptions to IMBOpro.
- Bud 4y agoYou seem deeply confused about this entire topic. Amazon Prime Video should actually be run by an "independent firm"? Who? Who pays for that? Who ensures they are impartial? Why? Ludicrous.
