Ask HN: Can you give your honest opinion about my startup?
Hello,
My startup is a cryptocurrency trading application. Yeah, crypto again :). I was working on it for about a year and a half. At some point the application became too big for me to work on it alone and I didn't have funds to hire additional devs. I decided to suspend the development. Not sure what should I do with it now and if there is a sense to continue. Can you please give me your suggestions?

Thanks,
Vlad
- djbusby 4y agoTake what you've learned there and move on. For your next business project do customer development and product market research before working on any "MVP".
- vfedoniuk 4y agothank you. I'm just thinking if I need to try harder with the current project and, in theory, find some investors (if I have a luck) or it's better to trash it and focus on something else.
- jdenning 4y agoYour screenshots look like they were lifted directly from TradingView (and cointelegraph). My first hunch is that this is some kind of Trojan or virus. No thanks.
- vfedoniuk 4y agoOk, thanks for the opinion, TradingView is a charting library that is used in the app.
- ianpurton 4y agoWhat % of your visitors download and use the app? Where does your traffic come from?
- vfedoniuk 4y agoSimple question but unfortunatelly I don't have an answer. I spent all my time on coding instead of marketing and analytics. That's probably not the best thing for the startup. I only track a number of downloads from time to time but it's not that big as I never conducted any marketing campaign. I've only submitted the app to some directories like crunchbase and others.
- solarmist 4y agoHonestly it doesn’t sound like a business then. It’s just a side project. What did you do, outside of coding, for this?
- dinom 4y agoI would only trust an application like this with "real" money if A) it was provided directly by my broker/dealer/exchange or B) it was open source. Since A is not an option I'd suggest open-sourcing the code. A distant second problem is it should be cross-platform. That's just table stakes in this day and age.
- vfedoniuk 4y agohmm, intersting idea about open-sourcing. That's something to think about. Thanks
- the__alchemist 4y ago"We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website. If you continue to use this site we will assume that you are happy with it. [OK] [Privacy policy]" Disrespectful and slimy.
- moooo99 4y agoIirc this is even illegal for users that fall under the GDPR since it’s not a sufficient opt in
- vfedoniuk 4y agothe thing here is the website is not collecting anything. Literally anything. That's a standard widget and from what I remember it's GDPR compliant. That's the last thing I would worry about to be honest but thanks for the comment.
- jethronethro 4y agoThe question to ask is: does the world need another crypto trading application? If so, how is yours different from the other ones out there (aside from the potential to build a personal trading bot)? If there's no compelling point of differentiation, and your user numbers aren't growing, then maybe it's time to move on. Apply what you've learned to another project.
