Zuckerberg as the "Boss / CEO" sucks & many folks question the business decisions of the board. But Zuckerberg as the engineering manager (I am told by multiple sources) is still well respected within Meta infra & engineering. When it comes to taking grasp of running a infrastructure company, the guy gets a lot of things right by remaining hands-on. A lot of the technical matters are still overseen by him personally.
In many ways his working style reminds me of Bill Gates of mid-90s Microsoft
- logicalmonster 4y agoYour comment is very interesting, and despite all of the jokes about him, I'd very much agree that Zuckerberg is very competent in many ways. However, I'm still left wondering if he's known for being willing to accept harsh criticism or not. Has he created a culture where somebody feels safe giving him some uncomfortable truths?
- bckr 4y agoSeeing as his employees call him "The Eye of Sauron", probably not.
- srvmshr 4y agoAgain, I am not Meta employee. But the answer points to (maybe?) yes. When Microsoft used to have 7 tiers of project approvals & Google made increasingly a distinct border between L4 & L5+ in matters of seniority (read: obedience), Meta has for the longest time tried to keep a very flat reporting structure. The company MBAs & marketing honchos get a lot of things effed up for them, but the infra & SW engineering teams have nothing but good things to say on matters technical & engineering leadership roles (including MZ)
- kwertyoowiyop 4y agoSince that screenshot went out, the answer is obvious.
- dimator 4y agoI strongly doubt any of the technical matters are in his purview. That's what CTOs are for. Not trying to shade, I'm sure he's an intelligent person, but his current role is all products, and no bearing on the technical choices behind them.
