UK Slips Behind India to Become World’s Sixth Biggest Economy
- ggm 4y agoWhat's the longterm prognosis? Is this more about the rise of Indian Middle classes and overall GDP and disposable income, or the fall of the UK as a function of brexit and Tory mismanagement?
- 609venezia 4y agoBroadly, it seems like both--India on the rise and the UK on the decline
- ggm 4y agoThe Indian rise is probably irreversible because it includes components of development which not even recession will negate. But the British slump is reversible somewhat. I don't personally like an economy hollowed out to fintech and IPR, with a huge service industry of underclass workers especially in health. So, I suppose I'm harking after some industry and manufacturing. Anyway, the size of the British economy could grow, somewhat. I'd be amazed if the Indian economy shrank even relatively: China has more hollowing out to come from the property market crash.
