I feel like the obsessive listing/ranking of things on the internet has sadly made some people lose confidence in their own opinions. As a super specific example, you almost have to apologize if you admit to liking Dark Souls 2. Before the internet, you could just like what you liked. Every single piece of media didn’t have a canonical analysis and ranking.
- ianai 4y agoThey may be true. But I assure you. Before the internet, for every person there was at least another person who would have thought almost everything about them was awful. Sadly now everyone can experience this thanks to the wide spread of the internet. But the underlying process of just living your life despite or in willful ignorance of your detractors is still possible. It’s like how society just might cease if we all had to walk around nude all the time with no exceptions. Privacy is a pillar.

But unless they published those likes and dislikes somewhere with a wide audience only about twenty people would ever know them and respond to them. The judging hasn't changed - the sheer scale of the people you'll interact with on a daily basis has.
