Hate is such a strong feeling to have towards a package manager. I don’t see how a freely built, freely available tool that you don’t have to use could cause such negative feelings, but if you just don’t use it then you’ll get over it.
- racl101 4y agoHeh, yeah I get what you're saying. Sounds overtly dramatic. But let me explain: I don't use it personally. I prefer to use virtual machines or Docker for my own workstation. But I am in a position to have to troubleshoot other people's Macbooks with this package manager ... so yeah. I stand by what I said. I wouldn't mind if other people troubleshooted their own stations at work.
- kdtsh 4y agoFair enough, if a user is maintaining packages on their computer with Homebrew I feel like they should take some responsibility for that. Unless it’s a cask, they should figure it out themselves or you can only really provide your best efforts. If you use a third-party package manager you should learn to be comfortable and familiar with how it works, or at least with how packages are declared, so you can troubleshoot your own problems and if necessary raise issues on the project.
