This guy has such a dangerous mindset.
We can easily have a trillion humans living in abundance in our solar system. It is work to get there. But requires no new science, but more engineering. Reusable cheaper access to space, start building rotating habitats, surround the sun.
- sytelus 4y agoI hate these kind of articles padded with so much fluff that you can’t find the real point the author is making. In any case, I used to think about trillion human in solar system vision and believe in it. No more. Humans are simply not designed to live outside of this planet long term. Our existence is confined to this razer thin 3 miles of atmosphere wrapping this little planet. It is amazing to see billions of humans now have millions of products at their fingertips. These products are made from raw materials and then gets burried under garbedge dumps. One has to wonder how long this party would last. Per one estimate various raw materials will start to run out between 2040 to 2100. Our generation would be truly looked at one of the most privileged aspired to provide everything to everyone.

- tuatoru 4y ago> We can easily have a trillion humans living in abundance in our solar system. No, we can't. The more educated people get, the lower their fertility rate. Western countries are well below replacement fertility now, with the likes of the US and Canada being topped up by immigrants. The reason is thought to be simple. Parents have a limit to the amount of time and money they want to invest in their children, and much of the investment is zero sum (getting your child into "better" schools, enrichment activities, etc.). Unless you can describe a realistic way that the rest of the solar system can be settled by people with no more than 6 years of schooling, or you are proposing an army of test-tube clones, a trillion people is simply impossible.
