These AI's mix art that could be under copyright and very different licenses (I've seen watermarks while using them). You can assign any license you want to the output, but that doesn't mean the owner of the original art won't find a similarity and sue you. So basically it's a risk. Laws are blind, there is no automatic winner in a legal dispute, what you can prove in court and the laws that apply to your jurisdiction are what count, and also how much money you will spend in the legal process whether you are right or wrong.
Not a lawyer! (tm)
- _manifold 4y agoThere's a few landmark lawsuits I'm patiently waiting for now that these tools have become widely available and can be used by anyone for purposes that are not not necessarily academic: a) Artist/copyright holder suing LAION, OpenAI, StabilityAI, or other scientific/academic entity for the unlicensed inclusion of their original work in a publicly-distributed model/data set. b) Artist/copyright holder suing someone for the use of an AI-generated image that is almost identical to their original work, and/or for using their name in the prompt that generated the image. c) Artist/copyright holder suing someone for unlicensed use of their original work, while the defendant claims the work was created using AI and therefore is in public domain. Anybody else have similar predictions?
- ffhhj 4y agoAdd a column for Copilot's generated code and you will have a nice prediction matrix.
- hammyhavoc 4y agoOf course. Like with crypto, I can't wait to see it blow up in the face of grifters and talentless hacks.
