Show HN: Create a freelance business in a few minutes
- tomschwiha 4y agoI do not understand the value of the service Clienty provides - payment and invoicing is handled by Stripe, or? Do I get new clients or what is the USP Here? 8% for just a chat seems to be a hefty fee.
- hugoss 4y agoJust payments are handled by Stripe.
- emilecantin 4y agoLooks like it's basically Upwork with a dark theme. If this focuses on high-quality work and doesn't become a race to the bottom, it could be nice, but I doubt it. As a freelancer, I'm very wary of tying my income to a third-party like this.
- monkin 4y agoThere’s no marketplace there, so you still need to find your clients. It’s the most misleading part of their website.
- doodlebugging 4y agoYou should review your animated fly-ins. The one for the "Feedback" category flies in and overlays the verbage underneath so that a user can't read that text until the page refreshes.
- dieselgate 4y agoWhy does it appear there’s no option to select cookies or toggle any off?
- marban 4y agoStarting a business ≠ writing invoices.
- vlokshin 4y agoThis is actually an annoyingly necessary part of running a freelance or service business.
- TekMol 4y agoWhat is the deal with all these anonymous startups that are popping up on HN all the time? Websites that completely conceal who made them. Posted by fresh HN accounts. Nobody on Twitter who tweeted "Hey, I build a new thing" or "I joined this startup" or whatever. And the "founders" being more or less unresponsive in the comments of their Show HNs. That doesn't make sense. As far as I remember, none of them ever turned into a real business I heard from again. Here is another one of this type which caught my eye a few days ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32622852 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32622852
- marban 4y agoHN is the new Producthunt — Show HNs should be banned.
- TekMol 4y agoNo. Show HNs are great. It's one of the main reasons I like HN. Many awesome companies did their first appearance as a Show HN. But those were by real people. There is a strange trend of anonymous websites that are supposed to be startups that confuses me.
- marban 4y agoWe need an entry barrier of some sort. Account age, Karma, whatever.
- dewey 4y ago> Show HNs should be banned No, some of them are the most interesting ones and a great way to directly talk to people building something. The solution is to just downvote / flag the spammy submissions that you don't think belong on HN.
- dewey 4y agoSimilarly to what another comment already mentioned I find it very odd to post a project and have zero information who's behind it. Especially if it's something where you would enter sensitive information and especially around payments. In cases like this I really like the law around having to have a proper imprint with business information available within one click that we have in Germany (EU?). Is it just a landing page to gauge interest?
