I'm not saying you're wrong, but RENFE's Rodalies service around Barcelona has been disastrous long before free train tickets.

  no problem. This is how Spain works. I am spanish. I left pissed off with service vs taxing. And it is going to keep getting worse.

Overbooking is illegal in Spain, as far as I know. "Free tickets" thus doesn't translate to "seats for everyone".

  The current leftist Government is giving the media hundreds of millions of euros in subsidies. Of course, that creates expectations and obligations on what media will report.
