This is a great idea, because I'll be able to snag a free Apple watch ;)
I regularly have phone watches left at our house by my children's friends and if you walk through the school after hours you'll occasionally find one lying on the floor (in amongst all the discarded clothes). They're too big for active children to want to keep on all day.
I can see why this would benefit some people, if their children have long solo commutes, and I'd trust Apple's privacy features more than most other phone watch manufacturers. But in general I'm more in favour of free-range children and not being able to track where my 9 year old is or have them message me every 10 minutes.
- vagrantJin 4y ago> their children have long solo commutes, The same people who'd want to track their kid's every move with an absurdly expensive watch can also turn around and let that same kid commute solo? My brains turnng to mush.
- ceejayoz 4y agoI'm not sure why that's so surprising. I want my kids to develop independenence, but also be able to find them in an emergency.
- w0m 4y agoI'm not sure i understand the Watch here; just sew an AirTag into their underoos if that's the goal for ~1/10th the price.
- ceejayoz 4y agoA cellular watch lets them get directions, text/call me, etc. and don't rely on phones being nearby like AirTags do. Are you not washing your kids' underoos?
- prirun 4y agoCould always chip them.
- vagrantJin 4y ago> but also be able to find them in an emergency Can you share what type of emergency needs an Apple watch to circumvent?
- ceejayoz 4y agoWe've got a doctors' appointment we've waited six months for, and they're not checking their texts reminding them to head home from a friend's.
- runjake 4y agoYour view of it is too simple and skewed. We want to be able to track their every move, not do it constantly. And by the way, they can track our every move, too, thanks to Family Sharing and that's how we (well, I) like it.
