Medieval mass burial shows much earlier origin of Ashkenazi genetic bottleneck
- balentio 4y agoIs it a genetic bottleneck, or is it "We'd rather not understand Jewish DNA so much?"
- wkearney99 4y agoDid you not read the linked article? One point FTA that might have some bearing: "Nobody had analyzed Jewish ancient DNA before because of prohibitions on the disturbance of Jewish graves. However, we did not know this until after doing the genetic analyses."
- balentio 4y agoYep. Funny thing, people with Jewish DNA aren't all buried in Jewish graveyards.
- jschveibinz 4y agoI wish that the article would have addressed (in one paragraph, at least) the reason behind the inference of the genetic bottleneck. But the Internet comes to the rescue: https://systemsbiology.columbia.edu/news/study-sheds-light-on-ashkenazi-jewish-genome-and-ancestry https://systemsbiology.columbia.edu/news/study-sheds-light-o...
- docmechanic 4y agoThanks for adding that context.
