Not as terrible sometimes, since often television shows and films “protect” for different aspect ratios (yes this is a thing). So people might shoot 16:9 and protect (basically make sure you have a readable frame) for 4:3 or you can shoot Scope and protect for 16:9. It’s not perfect but if the filmmakers thought of it it can be ok.
