Ask HN: Is there a modern Linux distro with UI centered around web technology?
No GTK, no QT, none of those traditional programmatic UI frameworks. I'd like to see a free Linux distribution where it's GUI makes complete use of web technologies, layout engine instances. So far the only thing I've seen is ChromeOS, but that's pretty locked down.

- pipeline_peak 4y agoI meant something that can actually be used that has a functional package manager and desktop experience out of the box. I used ChromiumOS back in 2013, it needs portage to install anything. Compared to apt, rpm, flatpak, there isn’t much of anything to install. The experience is far too hackish for what I'm looking for.
- beardyw 4y agoLooks like you have a project.
- pipeline_peak 4y agoYeah, I'd like to either port Ash from ChromiumOS to Ubuntu, or write something from scratch. But ideally, I might start with some sort of Desktop Environment. Ofc it all depends on if I still have the energy to do this :)
