You can have good and bad regulations, and too much and too little regulation. The only really dumb position is that fewer regulations = better always. For example, there are tons of building codes that keep houses from falling down, and make them livable in many other ways. Those seem good. Others that say that we shouldn't poison the air or water too much. Also good. So yes, much of the consumer protection is working very well thank you. There are a few places where we went overboard and need to cut back.
