Flee to Michigan as Soon as Possible
- tlhunter 4y agoI really do believe that buying land in the far north will be a good investment.
- toomuchtodo 4y agoDepends on your investment horizon. Being right at the wrong time (or taking decades to realize your gains) could be as bad as being wrong. The future gets harder to predict the further out it is. With all of that said, I did buy a parcel of land somewhere (not Michigan) for my children where climate change impact will be minimal (based on all available forecasting models). Whether it gets built on, whether they can defend it if necessary, all TBD.
- harambae 4y agoThe temperature could be between 2 and 9.7°F (1.1 to 5.4°C) warmer in 2100 than it is today. Is this really a reason to rush out and hold on to land in Alaska? There could very well be dozens of wars, pandemics, shortages and major shifts in culture between now and then.
- blockwriter 4y agoWhy does this article describe the west coast of Michigan as “runs north of Chicago”? The west coast of Lake Michigan runs north of Chicago, but you’re going to have a hard time getting to Traverse City if you leave Chicago going north. The scouting report from these folks seems pretty darn sloppy. Maybe visit before you declare Michigan the world’s climate change bastion.
- Kon-Peki 4y agoCan't avoid taking potshots at Detroit, eh? That hollowed out dystopia, with a population density higher than Phoenix, Atlanta, Austin, etc. But I assure you, the "lack of services" in Detroit is nothing like the lack of services in the Upper Peninsula. Keep your passport handy, if you need an airlift you might end up in Canada.
