I am more than willing to help if someone has shown the due diligence or curiosity.
Otherwise these asks are nothing more than asking for attention, which isn't just given away freely.
That doesn't make someone an asshole, this makes someone who values their time.

Aside: If direct messages and email doesn't scale for you, try doing an office hours type deal.
- nomel 4y agoI pushed all of my support to an issue tracker, at work. The only requirement is to put a basic description of what's going on, the version that they're using, and include the error text, in full. This immediately cut the time I spent, with support, by half. Some people realized the solution its almost always in the error text. Others spend hours trying to figure out the problem themselves, just to avoid submitting a ticket. People are strange.
- thenerdhead 4y agoI've been there. I don't like barriers personally, but I do understand they can deter people to the point of the problem solving itself or at least the urgency of the problem. People will go through hell and back to not fill out a quick form for help.
