All of the changes described in PSR (drastically cutting workers, implementing 16 hour shifts and stricter rules on now-overworked employees, running fewer yet longer trains) sounds like the rail industry is trying very hard to commit suicide. America seriously needs to revise our business school education curriculum and our legal system to refocus on long term profitability and stability, not short-term profit gain at the cost of imploding an economic sector.
- toomuchtodo 4y agoBroad strokes, biz vampires are trying to suck all of the blood out of businesses that require labor to run. Labor is slowly finding a stake through organizing. There is no labor shortage; only a shortage of workers willing to work for low wages and in poor working environments. > America seriously needs to revise our business school education curriculum and our legal system to refocus on long term profitability and stability, not short-term profit gain at the cost of imploding an economic sector. Amen. Also, stronger policy and regulator guardrails are needed against this sort of behavior by management and capital. Fiat, investment, and economic systems are not the end goal, but a tool to be wielded for broad socioeconomic lift (supposedly!).
