"One Twitterer, Nick Smith, was outraged at what Microsoft had done to his Outlook iOS app."
"The iOS @Outlook app shows me ads that look like emails now," he ululated. He added that he wished Microsoft would just go away with this sort of thing. Well, his exact words were: "get the f** outta here, @Microsoft."
"To be entirely fair, this email-looking ad did include the word "Ad" in a little box. One can, though, appreciate the feelings of human beings who, too often, keep wondering: "Is nothing sacred?"
Creating ads that look like emails might as well be malware. It is quite henious because it tricks the user and mixes ads into the user's data.
What comes next? Putting ads into a user's music files? Inserting ads into the sidebars of Word and PowerPoint documents that the user is building? Inserting ads into Teams chat feeds? Despicable.
- simonblack 4y agoCreating ads that look like emails Seeing that most email software has methods for denoting emails from particular sources as Spam, that would be my first thought for retaliation. (But knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if you found it to be impossible to send emails from Microsoft to the Spam Folder.) As regards Microsoft annoying their customers, I stopped being surprised at Microsoft's bastardry 30 years ago.
- MaxikCZ 4y agoIts not an email containing an ad. Its an ad looking like an email in a space reserved for emails. You cant filter it out, and most likely you cant delete it either. Similar to how Messenger puts an ad in your chat list.
