how about we stop medicating ADHD and treat it at the source?
- nhubbard 4y agoWhy don't we do both? I have ADHD and take medication for it. It has worked wonders for me personally. It's certainly not for everyone, but just because it only works for some people doesn't mean we should stop those who it works for from getting it.
- jimmygrapes 4y ago> how about we stop medicating ADHD and treat it at the source? What source? AFAIK that's up in the air, ranging from strong psychological trauma to hyperhedonia to undiagnosed genius to TBI to fetal/birthing environment to misdiagnosed [insert a long list] and many other hypotheses in between. Of these, my personal (and informed) belief is that the trauma aspect is most overlooked. And when I say trauma I mean trauma of all kinds, but specifically the traumas that tend to precede hypervigilance, which when "coped with" translates to identical symptoms as the layman's understanding of ADHD. In that case, yes, I agree, let's stop it at the source. Stop traumatizing kids, and stop traumatizing adults.
