Information hoarding leads to internal empire building. In a startup this is absolutely deadly. I've experienced this personally twice before learning my lesson to be careful surrounding this point. Obviously there's some stuff which simply must be confidential, like HR stuff, as well as early stage negotiations. But otherwise the default should be transparency.
