Author here, it happens right now with my 5 year old LG 27UD88. When the bottom part of the monitor renders something darker (say a Sublime Text window), it also displays a ghost image of a lighter previous image (like the browser window with a white page). It started about a year ago, and every time it happens, the bottom part of the panel is very hot to the touch. After letting a fan blow over that part to cool down the LEDs behind, the problem went away. Which leads me to think this is a hardware problem, and the panel is giving up on me.
