I walked away from a start-up and potentially a lot of money, largely due to lack of transparency. I think the worst thing that can happen is that your employees stop trusting you. They're still on the payroll but they're there only until something better comes along. Be careful with your answers to them when they ask for information you don't want to give out. If it's confidential, say that straight out and explain why. If the employee doesn't understand it or feels you're being deceptive or not totally honest, accept that there now has been a breach of trust between you.
