Netflix with ads could be priced as low as $7 per month
- sn0w_crash 4y agoI recently realized how much I genuinely enjoy cable tv. I get turn my brain off and watch whatever is available. It’s great.
- rolph 4y agoaround here cable and satellite, are nearly indistinguishable from a browser session without JSblocking and adblocking
- JumpCrisscross 4y agoAbout 30% less than their inflation-adjusted 7.99 from 2014 [1][2]. - Kukumber 4y agoThe "as low as", seems out of touch, considering it is already supposed to be funded with ads, or it's not enough? then why bother? to me this is the alarm that the model is just not sustainable for the movie industry And it is close to the original sub free, wich is quite telling Quality dropped because such model is not sustainable, i suspect Microsoft Game Pass will follow a similar fate, same for Sony Playstation Plus They should have followed the Valve Steam model, no need to bastardize everything
- Bakary 4y agoI can see the gaming pass schemes thrive if game streaming services to cheap hardware improve. Of course, that would raise the question of why we would then need dedicated vendor-locked consoles...
- Kukumber 4y agogame streaming has more problems: - you need to fund expensive hardware - you need to fund the games - you need to fund the future games - you need to fund new hardware It require more investment than video streaming, not sustainable
- Bakary 4y agoIt's certainly a tough problem, but on the other hand: - It can be part of a constellation of services that all reinforce the value of a single subscription, like what Amazon what is trying to do (sort of) - It can be the key to getting hundreds of millions of people who can only afford a phone to pay something extra, and to capture them into your ecosystem - You can get people to join on the basis of a handful of games. Heck, just FIFA alone could be a subscription service. With the tech and business models we have now, I agree that it is doomed to fail.
- dazc 4y agoPrime have been moving towards pay-extra for new releases (for example, top gun 2) and added subscription channels. Not sure why Netflix didn't go down this route since it seems to be a no-brainer?
- Flatcircle 4y agoPerhaps it’s nostalgic, but I preferred the a la cart model in the 90’s when there was a pipeline of new, well made films, and you knew what had just come out and what was coming. Netflix is filled with 80 percent junk, and I spend more time trying to find something I want to watch then I do watching something.
- Flatcircle 4y agoRarely do you see an announcement that’s so transparently for the stock investors, but means nothing for consumers reading it. Sure people might drop a tier to spend less money, but they’re not excited about watching ads
