I really am not sure how to feel about this.
- gus_massa 4y agoThe article is very difficult to understand. I think this other version is much better https://phys.org/news/2022-08-sustainable-chromosome-mice.html https://phys.org/news/2022-08-sustainable-chromosome-mice.ht... They just fussed two chromosomes of a mice into a longer one. The title in the scmp "fully reprogrammed genes" is just wrong. This kind of fusion happens naturally, but usually the offspring is not fertile or has a lot of problems during the development and dies. Every few millions years one of this fusions creates a viable animal and with some good luck the offspring grows. The offspring can not reproduce with the rest of the population that has not fussed genes, so they create a new specie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_gene https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_gene > I really am not sure how to feel about this. Unless you are a biologist working in animal evolution, or a genetist, or someone with a similar profession, this results looks pretty safe to ignore.
