Cloudflare Quietly Powers the Internet but It's a Haven for Misinformation

- rvz 4y agoForget about Cloudflare. The true runners of the internet are RIPE, ICANN, etc, who power the whole TLD and domain infrastructure which enables the whole internet operation in the first place. That is why even the Ukrainian government unsuccessfully tried to ban all Russian IPs via the same 'misinformation' excuse [0] [1] which that failure was unsurprising. Cloudflare still operates in Russia and is also used by Gab Inc., Truth Social, etc which many on this site, see them for some reason as 'undesirables'. Hence this, What are you going to do about that? Request to ICANN, RIPE, etc to de-platform the whole of Cloudflare because of the existence of a tiny minority of undesirables using them for years? Please go ahead and try. I'm waiting. And once you have done that, let's also ask ICANN and RIPE to de-platform another bigger haven rife of spreading (mis/dis)information, which is Facebook Inc. since they were part of spreading misinformation which fuelled an atrocity in another country. [2] I guarantee you that ICANN and RIPE will do absolutely nothing. - alexnewman 4y agoNot just cloudflare, dns orgs, arpa, the power companies, the water companies.
- whitepirate20 4y agoWhy would you expect Cloudflare to be responsible for policing the internet instead of law enforcement and the government? In the same way that ICANN doesn’t enforce registered domains to that extent or twitter banning everyone who violates an individuals views? It seems like a huge loss for society to fight for individual companies that care nothing more than to make money to also feign some ethical power for the people. Instead of pressuring the companies, pressure the government, pressure ICANN. You win too little to shutdown an image caching site. Too many logical fallacies in this article.
