Why do people use Hacker News, why not Reddit?
What's here that's not in reddit?
- bediger4000 4y agoNo advertising. The civility.
- togaen 4y agoBecause the Reddit UI is an unusable mess. At least HN interface makes sense. Also, HN is crazy fast to load and doesn’t need JavaScript.
- rurban 4y agoUI and Content
- superchroma 4y ago
- fatherzine 4y agoBetter moderation.
- mattl 4y agoWhich reddit? There’s not one that’s an exact match
- QuarterRoy 4y ago1) Better UI 2) Higher quality content 3) Higher quality posters If I want to discuss my hobbies or other subjects I use Reddit (specifically old.Reddit.com). If I want higher quality content and to read news about my profession I come here. I’m a member of several programming subs and other places like stackoverflow are still generally better for asking programming questions and receiving higher quality answers.
- brudgers 4y agoBecause of what is not here, I use HN.
- spxd 4y agoReddit is just a mess, there nothing make sense.
- thomassmith65 4y agoI could find pretty much everything I like about HN somewhere on Reddit – somewhere within the ocean of memes, dumb jokes, teenage wisdom, crap. I don't have the stomach for it.
- TigeriusKirk 4y agoI do use reddit. I find there are more high quality comments on Reddit than here, by a large margin. Perhaps not as a percentage of comments, but the raw number of quality comments is much higher.
- mbg721 4y agoAcross all subreddits, though? HN is a single channel.
- TigeriusKirk 4y agoI don't use all subreddits. I refer only to those I do use.
- QuarterRoy 4y agoI would be very curious as to which subs you subscribe to.
- krapp 4y agoPlenty of people here use both HN and Reddit, and even 4chan/8chan. I'd suspect users who only use HN exclusively are in the minority.
- opensores 4y agoOne reason: reddit is the worst and earliest when it comes to device fingerprinting abuse. HN has abstained from that altogether afaik.
