Just look for a provider who allows it. I don't get the problem some people are trying to make here.
This is capitalism, Hetzner does not want cryptocurrency stuff on their servers, that's fine. Lots of other providers do not want chat applications, filehosting and whatnot as it stresses their systems more than usual. That's fine, there's a place for everybody.
- latchkey 4y agoThe issue is that today there is 17% of the ETH PoS network running on Hetzner. It is beyond capitalism when it comes to just running a piece of software that doesn't use any more resources than anything else. It also is not illegal. Certainly they can decide what they do and do not want running on their network, however it becomes a slippery slope quickly... what will they ban next? What will others ban?
- eropple 4y agoSpeaking as a very happy Hetzner customer: if that slope gets slippery about anything I think has a reason to exist beyond techno-optimist grift, I promise to you that I'll care. I'll be right there on that line. Crypto though? Nah. Good on Hetzner for this. I appreciate their decision.

- latchkey 4y agoDo you think Render will come out with a similar policy soon? I haven't read the ToS.
- josephcsible 4y ago> if that slope gets slippery about anything I think has a reason to exist beyond techno-optimist grift, I promise to you that I'll care. I'll be right there on that line. By the time we get that far on the slope, it'll be too late for your support to help. That's the whole premise of slippery slopes. First they came for the cryptocurrency users, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a cryptocurrency user. ... Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
- martin_a 4y agoYeah, what's next? Comparing cryptofans to the Jews while the Nazis were in power? People really need to chill out with regards to that ponzi scheme.

"Each of my bank accounts were temporarily frozen because there was so much cash flowing through them that the banks thought I was laundering money."
- martin_a 4y agoMaybe try calling your bank before. Talking to people goes a long way.
- latchkey 4y agoThat could go the wrong way too... "thanks for letting us know that we should investigate you further, we're going to shut down your account until you can prove yourself otherwise"...
- martin_a 4y agoTotally possible when you've got your account with a Russian bank in this case, otherwise: I doubt it.
- redox99 4y ago> I don't get the problem some people are trying to make here. People are free to complain. And it makes sense, if people chose Hetzner it's because there was something they liked over the other providers. Now they'll have to move to another provider they like less. And even if you don't care about crypto, I don't want to live in a world where all the big cloud providers have a long list of software you can or can't run. It's important to harshly criticize these things before they become commonplace and they affect you in some other way.
