Fully autonomous restaurant opens in SF
- metadat 4y agoFinally- between autonomous restaurant, stable diffusion, JWT, and more, wow! 2022 seems like a pivotal year across many dimensions. Especially compared the ocean of empty promises and dreams of the first tech boom and subsequent bust implosion that culminated in 2000. Today is one of the first times in awhile that I genuinely feel optimistic about the short-to-medium term future of humanity. Maybe we can make some cool and useful stuff, instead of price gouging each other into a pit of dispair? I'll do what I can.
- IceMetalPunk 4y agoI'd argue that, in the case of stable diffusion (and AI in general), the pivotal year was 2017, not 2022. 2017 is when that team of Google researchers invented transformers, and AI (including stable diffusion) has been zooming at light speed ever since. I don't think I've seen a single cutting-edge generative AI since 2018-ish that didn't include a transformer somewhere in its architecture. (Except, I guess, NeRF techniques.) They're even being used to create, effectively, robots that think and plan and communicate those thoughts and plans in natural language.
