Interesting. So if I want to see some people's accounts and messages, can I just claim to buy the companies that hold their data and request it for DD?
From the article Twitter seems to "only" hand over data of the 9000 accounts they used for their own auditing. Might be interesting accounts among them.
I wonder what would have happened if Musk had not requested data from all accounts, but a more targeted list of valuable targets. Would that have been granted?
[Edit] would it be insider trading if one uses the information gained on another business during DD?
If not there might be space for "Edge fonds". Which gain an edge by making fake acquisition offers and use the information gained about users during DD to make trading decisions.

Discovery requests have to be justified to the judge that they are applicable to the lawsuit. If e.g. Musk's lawyers asked for all data on Trump, the judge would likely deny that request as "overly broad" since Musk's lawyers (presumably) would not be able to demonstrate how Trump's records could be used to make their case in court.
