Beeban Kidron was a film director and is a children's rights advocate. She was awarded an OBE (for services to drama) in 2012, the same year Toni Morrison and Bob Dylan were awarded Presidential Medals of Freedom for their own contributions to the arts. The brits being who they are, receiving such an honour comes with a life peerage attached. That title is exactly equivalent to "Why is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient drafting California Censorship Laws?", which sounds a lot less sinister.
- Mindwipe 4y agoNot especially, since a life peerage gets you unelected upper chamber rights to draft the UK's laws - Kidron heads a pressure group on censorship, and was given the ability to vote on the legislation they suggested, and was allowed to sit on the Parliamentary group criticising the Online Safety Bill legislation which didn't even invite any critics of her plans. That is sinister.
