How about naming a one-row, one col table 'dual' to get a SELECT going where the db demand something in the FROM clause? Was that a Scott flourish? I've done that with other dbs than Oracle.

...and the column is named DUMMY. All hell breaks loose if you insert or delete from this table. I made a DUAL table in Rdb.

Why is it called "dual" if there is only one item in it? I guess it's a joke of some sort, but I'm not getting it :-/
