On Psychedelic Masculinity
- hypertele-Xii 4y ago> where do you find your meaning, purpose, and self-worth when you can’t rely on your job anymore? > psychedelics I think this article is falling a bit too much on the honeymoon phase of taking many drugs. Yes, ecstacy will make you feel love where previously there was none. Yes, cannabis is a thousands of years old religious herb that calms your aggression. Yes, psilocybin mushrooms will make you question the nature of your reality, with potential for life-changing improvement. But meaning, purpose, self-worth? That's a lot of value assignment to one tiny slice of existence.
- hericium 4y agoNon-religious people can find "something more" under the influence of psilocybin, DMT or LSD or during following weeks. They may start looking for purpose or meaning where they previously did not seek: inside. No drugs will give you long-term purpose, meaning or self-worth but some can certainly provoke thought patterns of "there's more to it all" or "everything is connected" which in certain people may result in positive life changes like seeking (or acknowledging) spirituality without losing disregard towards religions.
- choko 4y agoThere is no toxic masculinity, only toxic people. The term toxic masculinity serves no purpose other than to denigrate a class of people that share masculine characteristics. It's ironic that I most often see the concept pushed by people that claim to be against sexism.
- alphabettsy 4y agoCompletely disagree with you. The idea that to be masculine means to be domineering and aggressive is toxic. Obviously this is not what it means to be masculine, but many suggest that it is. Promoting anti-social toxic behaviors and equating them with masculinity is toxic masculinity.
- choko 4y agoCorrect, this is NOT what it means to be masculine, which means the behavior is just toxic. No good is served by coupling the two words and has only served to denigrate all masculinity. We don't typically use the term toxic femininity, even though there are women out there that display toxic traits which they link to feminity.
