The Legacy of Heroku's Free Tier
- docmechanic 4y agoThanks for sharing this lovely piece of writing and illustration that eloquently describes a personal connection with a technology and a mature understanding of the lifecycle and the accessibility to computing technologies. Things could be even worse. Imagine if we didn't have GNU.
- xena 4y agoYou're welcome. I wish I could do something to make things better for people, but I am one person and I can't enact change on my own to the scale needed to really make an impact. But what I can do is take action at the individual level. I really wish that things could be better though.
- rurban 4y agoDoes GNU provide free tiers for free software webprojects? No, they don't. They cannot even provide a proper gitea/gitlab, their free web offering is driven by CVS! I have to find now a new free provider, after being burnt by Redhat OpenStack, and now Heroku.
- docmechanic 4y agoApples and oranges. Was commenting on what would happen if another important technology went the way of Heroku. I can think of others, but I'm not making direct comparisons of the functionality and scope of the affected technologies.
