I came to say exactly this. If you're passionate about what your startup is doing, it seems to me it should be pretty easy to put a few days effort into building out a better "coming soon" website. With frameworks like Bootstrap (http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/ http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/) this has become extremely easy to do. For actual email capturing, you can use something like the Campaign Monitor widget, or skin a Google Form to look a bit nicer and you're good to go.
