Python is the easiest language I've tried and I'm fairly productive with it. It can do tkinker which is a bit sucky but it can also do GTK which is something I'm going to get started with soon. I like python because string and array handling is awesome and there are no curly braces and semicolons. Some are taken aback by spacing or tabs but it really makes it easy to quickly move things from levels, conditions, and loops. I don't take any principled approach to software development so I'm not afraid of doing dumb things like os.system() instead of a process call because my inputs and outputs are always predictable.
But the biggest reason I like python is that vast libraries of advanced data processing available all for free. I've been programming a big personal project and its like being in your own kitchen.
