Recently switched from the Gmail web UI to Thunderbird (backed by Gmail IMAP). I don't think I could ever go back---for the first time in many years my inbox is getting the attention it deserves. I've cleaned up the junk mail, added a bunch of folders and filters, and it's a whole different world.
Definitely Thunderbird could be better than it is. But it's definitely better than what it's replacing, at least for my use.
- derac 4y agoThunderbird is awesome. One feature I love is that you can use Darkreader to make emails dark mode.
- bxparks 4y agoI haven't used Thunderbird in 10-20 years. Why does Thunderbird allow you do that, but not Gmail? My personal Gmail account has ~350 folders (labels) and ~300 filter rules. One of my previous work GSuite accounts had probably 1000-2000 labels and filters. I migrated from Outlook to Gmail, and I found that I could process 2-4X the amount of emails as I could on Outlook. The key feature for me was the vi-key bindings in Gmail.
