Putin bets winter gas chokehold will yield peace – on his terms
- trasz 4y agoRussia’s last (literally - there’s no army units left to mount another one) offensive fizzled out, same as previous ones. Except this time they can’t flee without losing Crimea, and this will make them look unusually bad. Add the fact that Russia is losing access to the Baltic Sea, and realization that their new overlords are “ethnically inferior” Chinese… Given proper support, Russia will crack before the winter.
- rasz 4y agoRussians have predisposition for self destruction. Biggest problem with this prediction is possibility of putin reaching for nukes as last resort to maintain resemblance of power. We can only hope homegrown opposition is able to take over, or at least remove him.
- trasz 4y agoI don’t think Russia even has operable nukes at this point, looking at their general performance. Nukes are a perfect target to, erm, covertly redirect money from; Roland Topor had a story about this. And even if they were operable, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were mechanisms to defend. I’m more worried about the massive refugee wave from Russia once it really hits the fan.
