The Peer-Review Crisis
- derbOac 4y agoI wish there was more openness in discussing this. Part of the problem, like many problems in academics, is that a lot of this isn't acknowledged in the field, at least until after it's already been going on for some time.
- yawnxyz 4y agoEveryone knows the real problem is in the funders, like the NIH. They could easily correct the problem by yanking / giving funding for "boring" activities like proper peer review, proper fraud detection (why is all of it falling on Elizabeth Bik and short sellers? Why did the NIH not catch the beta amyloid disaster??), and maybe special funding for reproducing results. Yes, NIH created the "crisis" in the first place by only putting "shiny, complex things" on the pedestal.
