I've never like the taste of beer but come to tolerate the low-bitterness wheat lager type. So if socially useful I just spend a long time drinking up one. If you don't mind the taste but do mind the alcohol, dealcoholized beers have come a long way to repectability. I was stunned to see them as a standard offer at the Viktualienmarkt in Munich of all places, and that was 9 years ago.
And finally the old stalwart: Ginger ale! If you don't put ice in it, it doesn't look much different from beer.
- noisy_boy 4y agoI was told by a flight steward that Ginger Ale is great for keeping your tummy happy over long-flights that can mess with your sleep/digestion. Not sure how true but I love a glass of the stuff generously topped with ice cubes.
- MarkusWandel 4y agoFunny, there is a tolerance spectrum for ginger ales. Canada Dry (prefer over Schweppes) is just a flavoured sodapop. But my wife likes make-your-tongue-burn ginger beers. And once you develop a taste for the (less hardcore) ones it's hard to go back to the wuss stuff. Note, ginger beer is not alcoholic. Separately, and forgot to mention earlier. If your social self-confidence is low, you may attach an outsize importance to your drinking a soft drink while everyone else is drinking beer or wine. It really doesn't matter that much, and people don't judge you for it as much as you think. Why are you not drinking beer? Because I don't like the taste/alcohol. Continue conversation, end of topic. Spoken from experience as a tend-to-be-outsider mostly-not-beer-drinker.
- paulmd 4y agoI really enjoy "Ginseng Up!" brand ginger brew... one of the best ginger ales I've found. They offer several different styles but the Ginger Brew is the best imo. Lots of ginger floating around in it. I actually just love it on a hot afternoon, great stuff, wish more places around here carried it.
