Show HN: Interactive visualization of how Bitcoin works
Hi! This is a little something I've been working on to help people understand how Bitcoin and "blockchain" actually works. It's an interactive simulation of a Bitcoin-like system, running in your browser. It was originally intended as a full interactive online course, and someday it might evolve to become just that.
The source code is here: https://github.com/trudi-group/isds https://github.com/trudi-group/isds (Rust compiled to WebAssembly)
Feel free to use this however you like! (For teaching, for learning, as a screensaver, ...) And I'm all ears if you have comments or questions!
- zenexer 4y agoVery cool! I noticed there's a "Mining in progress..." animation using CSS transforms that seems to be rotating very quickly--it's a bit hard on the eyes. Bad timer, maybe? Probably not great for battery life.
- marfl 4y agoMany thanks for this feedback! You're the second person that mentions that the "mining" spinner is spinning too fast. I was trying to convey that a lot of "work" is happening in the background. This point doesn't seem to come across this way so I've just slowed that spinner down for now. As for the battery life - well the site is quite literally simulating a distributed system in your browser... I'm sure there are less CPU-intensive websites on the Internet :)
