The day Google banned(from Gmail and all Google products without ability to port thier data) some pixel phone buyers for reselling their phones[1], I did these 3 things:
1. Setup a new personal domain and email on fastmail. I can take my email somewhere else if fastmail decides to ban me.
2. Setup account on Backblaze for my backups, Google drive can't be trusted.
3. Moved to alternatives for all Google services. Removed Google signin from all the other websites.

- doublerabbit 4y ago> Setup account on Backblaze for my backups, And what if Blacklaze decides to ban you? I feel that you should never rely on a remote-provider for backups. Unless you own the hardware to where your data sits, you have no backups at all.
- ClumsyPilot 4y agoWell a backup in your house is worse, in case of flood/fire/robbery it's lost. Some people have a remote location or family home with good internet where they can place a NAS or something, but many do not. I've done it before, you have to call family member and ask them to unplug/restart. They are backups, you can make a new backup, unless your computer catchers fire at the same time as you get banned.
- scottydelta 4y agoI am a paid customer and Backblaze has a customer support unlike Google who you can reach out to incase there is a misunderstanding.
- namaria 4y agoThis is the way. People are responding to this like Google is water or something. It's just a company whose services we use mostly for free out of convenience. If you come to depend on them, it's on you.
